2017 Awards – Most Popular Coffee Spot

A shot of speciality coffee from an Nespresso-compatible capsule served by Maxwell Colonna-Dashwood at a talk at Modern Society. So, here it is, the final Coffee Spot Awards Shortlist for 2017, the only one that you, my readers, decide. It’s the “Most Popular Coffee Spot” Award, which is based on the total number of views received by each Coffee Spot in 2017.

Last year this was won last year by Speciality Coffee in Capsules? with 1,217 views. This year we have quite a few Coffee Spots which have broken the 1,000 views mark, which I’m quite excited by. Of the 12 most viewed Coffee Spots, six are about coffee shops, while the other six are Saturday Supplements, a record high!

You can see the shortlist after the gallery.

  • First up in this year's Most Popular shortlist is Stir, flying the flag for Cambridge.
  • 2017 saw me launch my Guide to Reusable Cups, featuring the ThermaCup.
  • Third up, Nkora, in London's Shoreditch.
  • Staying in London, Allpress Espresso is the only roaster on the list this year.
  • And talking of Allpress, my piece on its Dalston coffee shop also made the shortlist.
  • Proving very popular is the Made by Hand Coffee Pop-up in UniQlo on Oxford Street.
  • Another popular post was my piece on the Sage Barista Express espresso machine.
  • 2017, the year I said goodbye to a favourite Coffee Spot, the original Flat Caps Coffee.
  • 25A Old Market, the little sibling of No 12 Easton, flying the flag for Bristol.
  • Ever popular, it's the London Coffee Festival.
  • Staying in London, we have Tab x Tab from Westbourne Grove.
  • And finally, I got a new grinder this year, my Aergrind from Knock.

A special mention also needs to go to the following:

  • Made by Knock: Hausgrind and Feldgrind: published in 2015 and with 4,500 views, this is most popular ever Coffee Spot.
  • Cotswold Artisan Coffee: published in 2013 and with over 3,000 views, this is the most popular ever Coffee Spot which is actually a coffee shop.
  • Ezra & Gil: published last year, Ezra & Gil finished third in last year’s Most Popular Coffee Spot Award, while this year it was viewed over 1,000 times. While that would have got it onto this year’s shortlist, it wouldn’t have been enough to get into the top three.
  • Coffee Lab, Winchester: another from last year, the Coffee Lab was also viewed over 1,000 times this year, which would have been enough to get it onto this year’s shortlist.

And the winner is Made by Knock: Aergrind
Runners-up: Coffee Spot Guide to Reusable Cups and Sage Barista Express
